Annelise Josephine Smith is an oil painter working out of her home studio in Melbourne. She held her first solo show in 2019, Lapis Lazuli at Urban Cow Studio and held an exhibition Modern Heirlooms at Design Eyewear, Gawler Place in 2021. She has also been involved in numerous group shows throughout Adelaide and Melbourne. She was a finalist in the 2018 Waterhouse Natural Art Prize, Characters of the Fleurieu in 2020 and the Shirl Portrait prize 2015.

Her serene paintings seek to capture the beauty of everyday life, depicting objects in a minimal form. She is inspired by simple imagery, often devoid of colour and monochromatic. Her paintings endeavour to compliment the natural texture of the linen, utilising minimal texture within the paint itself and consideration for individual brushstrokes. The process of painting using a slow medium offers time for contemplation and introspection. She uses painting to offer herself moments of calm and connection with her body.
